Learn more about Jeanie's Oasis
We educate visitors on the ecosystems of the Chihuanhuan Desert (New Mexico) while providing an oasis of beauty and serenity for all to enjoy. Come visit our oasis and learn more about Jeanie and our environment.
All trails will be wheelchair friendly with names, interpretive signs, and directional markers. The surface of the trails will be maintained, packed caliche soil, which is a pleasing desert color. No hot, polluting asphalt will be on the trails.
No toxic chemicals are ever used at Jeanie's Oasis Nature Trails. All plants coming in phases 2-5 will be water wise native plants.
Mission
In memory of Jeanie Esquibel, we educate people of all ages about the native plants of the Chihuahuan Desert and the importance of the pollinators that are relevant to the ecosystem and our survival.
Vision
We are creating and maintaining an oasis of beauty, peace, and serenity for humanity to enjoy until the end of time.
Our Board of Directors
Dwaine "Red" Meador was born a Texas farm boy. Dwaine became very proficient with farm life. Dwaine's joy was growing plants, that is still true today. Dwaine, had a strong desire to see what was around the bend of the road and to do new things.
At 19, Dwaine left the farm to follow his dream. Over the years Dwaine was successful at many endeavors from the oil field, electrical contractor, truck driver, trucking company owner, and law enforcement supervisor. Dwaine’s focus was always to master his current endeavor, then move on to the next. Dwaine’s most rewarding endeavor was being the 24/7/365 caregiver for Jeanie Esquibel.
After returning from the US Navy Seabees of the Vietnam Era, Dwaine decided to make his new home in New Mexico (a place near and dear to his heart). Dwaine continued to see new places and do new things but kept New Mexico as his home base.
In September 2000, Dwaine met a beautiful soul on the internet and a lasting friendship was forged. After 2 years, Dwaine and Jeanie, were about to have their first in person meeting, Thanksgiving week of 2002. Jeanie had not told Dwaine that she was physically disabled and required a wheelchair, until a week before the meeting. Jeanie said it was OK if he did not want to meet. Dwaine's reply was “Girl, I am in love with you and nothing is going to change that".
Over time, that friendship became a relationship resulting in Dwaine temporarily relocating to California to be with Jeanie Esquibel. The next 18 years were about to become the most rewarding of Dwaine 's life. Dwaine and Jeanie were together 24/7/365 from March 21, 2004 until her passing October 8, 2020. Dwaine, learned more about life and living in the 20 years with Jeanie than he had in the previous 58 years.
At 80 plus years of age, this memorial to Jeanie Esquibel is the last endeavor Dwaine plans to undertake. Thanks to the strong board of founding directors, most of who knew Jeanie, this memorial will last until the end of time.
